TST – Painted Wooden Bucket

The Thrift Store Transformations continue.

Buckets Joss and Main

Joss & Main

A few days ago Joss and Main had several painted wooden buckets for sale on their website and seeing them inspired me into action.

Mid Cent Mag Bucket

This old wooden storage bucket was a thrift store find last year for about $3.  I brought it home, put it in my thrift store stash, and promptly forgot about it.  When I saw the Joss and Main buckets I remembered a similar wooden bucket and knew it was time to get it out of the stash and make something wonderful out of it.

So I dug it out and cleaned it up a bit.  I used Annie Sloan Pure White Chalk Paint from a swag bag I received at a blogging conference last year.  The bucket looks really rough in the photo above but I’m hoping it is a beauty when it is transformed.

Painted bucket

I painted the outside of the bucket including all the metal banding.  Then I used extra fine sandpaper and took some of the paint off distressing the bucket and metal banding.  Since the buckets from Joss and Main were not painted on the inside I left mine unpainted as well as the handle.

Inside Painted Bucket

There were a few scratches and nicks on the inside of the bucket as you can see in the photo above but I decided that they gave the bucket character.  I left them alone and applied a thin coat of clear wax to the inside of the bucket but none on the outside.  I liked the way the paint looked without wax.

Painted Bucket in use

The painted wooden bucket found a new home by my bedroom chair.  Where I put it to good use holding some magazines.  Yeah, I know Coastal Living magazine when I’m landlocked, but a girl can dream, can’t she?
