TST Basket Love

I love baskets and have collected them for years.  Not only are they beautiful they are functional in keeping your house organized so I am always on the lookout for nice ones at the thrift store.

Today I found a somewhat pathetic specimen at the thrift store for two dollars.  She is 16x12x9 inches, a nice size and she is wider at the top by two inches.   She has a blue liner but is  missing one of her handles.  I have an idea how to make this ugly duckling into a beautiful swan.

Sad Basket

Here is the pitiful thing, but just you wait.

Basket Better

After taking the liner out to wash I removed the remaining handle with scissors.  I have done this type of surgery before.  She looks better already.

Basket Rope Handle

Next I gave her some nice rope handles.

Basket Rope Handle ties

To make the handles I threaded rope through the willow and tied a knot on each end of the rope.

Basket Beauty

With a number added Pottery Barn style she is all finished.  Big difference, don’t you think?

Basket Beautiful Swan

She is both beautiful and functional.  She is already doing her organizational duty by keeping an afghan and throw pillow tidy.  The large handmade afghan is a recent thrift store find.  It was 50% off day and I paid a measly $1.75 for it.

I’m glad you stopped by today to see how I turned and ugly ducking into a beautiful swan, basket that is.  Be be sure to come back soon and if you don’t already subscribe to my blog be sure to sign up by e-mail, so you will never miss a post.  I would love for you to follow me on Pinterest here and if you e-mail me your Pinterest URL, I would love to follow you.  Thanks for visiting!

  1. Sharon, I always keep a look out for baskets at the thrift shops also. My pantry is filled with ones that I have picked up. great for holding pasta, chips, packaged cookies etc. I made tags and labeled each basket. Hubby teased and said, “sure glad this says cookies, otherwise I would not have known what they were”. lol! We just need added cuteness, right? Love the rope handles and the added tag on this find!

  2. awesome idea!!! I luv baskets too!!!

  3. Love the transformation you did! I found a wicker picnic basket last summer and recently tried staining it a darker color and was very pleasantly surprised that wicker can take stain…

Now I’m going to go see if it can “take a tag” like the one you did….LOL

    Great job!

  4. Great idea and way to change the basket. Thanks for sharing at TTF!

  5. What a great idea for the handles! I never would have thought of that!

  6. You did a wonderful job making this basket new – it looks marvelous. I am delighted to share that your post will be featured in this week’s Home and Garden Thursday,
