Fourth of July snuck up on me this year and I didn’t do much decorating. So I bought a couple of bunches of red carnations and went to work making four bouquets.
There is something special about each bouquet. The blue and white French water pitcher, a recent Etsy purchase, is perfect to hold a patriotic bouquet of red carnations and baby’s breath, read about it here. The vintage blue milk of magnesia bottle is one my husband found years ago while out surveying around an old home place. The small bouquet holds an American flag that was given to me by a sweet guy who I worked with for many years. This little flag is so special to me because he was a veteran and gave me the flag on Veteran’s Day about fifteen years ago. Last but not least, the floating carnation is in a teacup that is part of a collection I inherited from my Mother.
This little lovely was strictly a result of happenstance. When I finished arranging the flowers this lone blossom was laying on the counter and I just couldn’t throw it away.
There is one more thing special about this bouquet. The blue blossom is the only one my little hydrangea bush has produced this year. I wouldn’t have cut it but it was about to wilt in the hot Georgia sun. It perked right up when I placed it in some water.
It’s time to fire up the grill. I hope you and your family have a safe and wonderful Fourth of July 2014.
