Yes, that’s right a decorative pillow cover from one place mat. Ok, I know you seamstresses out there find yourself mortified but hear me out. I was looking at the fall décor and saw a very pretty plaid place mat in the traditional fall colors. Upon inspection I realized a couple of things. There was only one place mat left and it was constructed out of two separate fabrics . It was plaid on the front and a plain beige fabric on the back. Would this work for a decorative pillow cover?
The answer is yes.
Here is what you need to make the pillow cover – two-sided fabric place mat, scissors, ribbon, heat bonding tape, iron, and an insert.
First cut a slit in the plain side of the place mat.
Make sure your opening is large enough to slide in the pillow insert. I already had a pillow that fit perfectly.
Bond the ribbon to the raw edges of the slit using the heat bonding tape.
Slide in your pillow insert and you are done. How quick and easy was that?
Now all I need is a few more pillows in some of the lovely fall colors in the plaid of my No Sew Place Mat Pillow Cover.
