TTT Week 16 – Using Vintage Christmas Decorations

For these last three weeks leading up to Christmas Thursday Thrifty Treasure  is going to be about how I use some of my vintage and not so vintage thrifty finds to decorate my house for the holidays.  The only rule I gave myself is that everything used in the décor is a product of my unrelenting thrifting/antiquing habit.

TiTT Wk 16

This week it is a giant snow globe in a Fountain Jar accompanied by Santa and a deer.

Putz House (2)

When I found a rather large Fountain Jar sitting on the shelf at Goodwill I quickly placed it in my cart.   I knew exactly what to do with it.  On the same day at the same Goodwill this little Putz house was sitting prettily on the shelf with the seasonal décor.  People ignored it because the windows where missing, but not really.  When I picked it up I could see the little windows laying in the bottom of the house.  I thought that I could fix them and fix them I did.  It was a little tricky but with some perseverance, tweezers, and glue the windows are back in place.

Wreath on door

It even has a tiny wreath on the front door and

Pulz House light

a round hole in the back just the size for an old school Christmas light bulb to fit through.

House in jar

First the snow went in the jar then I added the Putz house.

Few Bottle Brush trees

It needed a few more bottle brush trees.  So I added six more.

House & Deer

The pretty deer came from my grandson’s stash of wild animals.  He has a couple of cars that I plan on borrowing soon.

You remember the adorable Santa planter I found a few weeks ago and shared in TTT Week 14, well he never made it to the antique mall.

Santa 2

Santa is holding my favorite bottle brush tree.

Christmas Scene

So all together they make a charming little Christmas vignette.

Please be sure to come back soon.  If you don’t already subscribe to my blog be sure to sign up by e-mail on the right or the Hello Bar at the top.  That way you will never miss a post.  Thank you for visiting.

Sharon, one of my favorite things to do at Christmas is to create little snow scenes under glass. I love your Putz house! Can’t believe that you found it at a Thrift shop. What a little treasure! The deer is perfect as well. Can’t wait to see more! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  2. Oh, I love your little glitter house and that you made a snow scene with it! I decorated my main Christmas tree with these little houses. I made a few a couple of years ago and have picked up some more. I just love the nostalgic feel of them. Your little Santa planter is adorable too. I need one of those!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  3. Love the winter scene in the jar! I have one the same size and couldn’t decide what to do with it–now I know. I just bleached some trees today, so they’ll be going inside, with what else, I’m not sure. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

  4. This is soooooo beautiful 🙂
We don’t celebrate Christmas here but I do remember these vintage jars from my childhood.

  5. I am obsessed with Vintage Christmas decor! I really love what you’ve done with the jars! Have a wonderful weekend! Blessings, Cecilia

  6. This is so awesome! Also, wanted to let you know that there is a link party at my blog on Wednesdays – hope to see you there! Can’t wait to party with you at: 🙂

  7. Just happen to have most of the items to do this! Thanks for the inspiration. Gonna make me one!!

  8. I love your vignette! I am pulling out a large jar and making a scene with my putz houses and bottle brush trees.

Of course I love this vignette – it has bottle brush trees in it. The putz house was a wonderful find. Thank you for sharing this vintage vignette at Make It Monday.

  10. Thank you so much for sharing at The Found & Foraged Linky party. I hope you will come by to see us again! Have a great week!

  11. Creating snow scenes in glass is new to me and I just love yours! I have the exact jar and some snow. Today I went out and got more bottle brush trees and animals and then I saw your fabulous jar. I found deer, a bear, a bunny and a squirrel for mine and I am having a blast making snow scenes in mason jars as gifts.
