Ladder Advent Calendar Featuring Vintage Ornaments

My old felt Advent Calendar has seen better days so

Ladder Advent Collage

I decided to make a new one.  My inspiration came from Pottery Barn’s Stocking Ladder Advent Calendar.

In hopes of finding small inexpensive stockings I went to all the usual places and came up empty.  Then I remembered the drawstring bags at the Target Dollar Spot.  I chose the burlap, plaid, and checked bags.

Vintage Ornaments

Since my ladder advent calendar has drawstring bags I decided to include a small Christmas tree and vintage ornaments.  You may remember I found a treasure of several boxes of Shiny Brite ornaments (here) and one of boxes held small ornaments.  I also have a few small ornaments from our Christmas tree after we married and those ornaments are definitely vintage.

I have a little ladder that I use in the booth for display so it became the base of the Advent Calendar.

Not wanting to put numbers on the bags (so the bags can be used again) I looked in my stash and came up with some natural colored tags.  I wrote numbers on the tags with a black Sharpie.

Suddenly, I realized that it was December 1st and I had not gotten around to putting my ladder advent calendar together, so I gathered every thing I and went to work.

I placed the little vintage ornaments and candy on the bags and attached the numbers.  Then I attached each bag to the ladder .

Ladder and tree

We take turns opening one bag each day and placing the vintage ornament on the tree.  Of course we never forget to eat the candy included on the bag.

  2. Cute idea! Love the ladder and the bags. Isn’t Target’s dollar spot wonderful? They have the best stuff in there. 🙂

  3. I’m with you, don’t forget to eat the candy! What a great Advent calendar, I like yours even better than Pottery Barn’s. Way to use that Target dollar bin! xoKathleen Charm Bracelet Diva {At Home}

  4. Have never made advent calendar either. Sure do want that ladder, it is perfect rough with lots of rungs for hanging. Have you had your ladder for long time? Would love one but no place really in our small house to use one.
We have single wide mfg. home, all we could afford here, it’s not for regular ss income people. Lots of wealthy ex- Californians here, we’re not any of them, lol. GRand JUnction is oil town and boy do we pay thru nose for it.
You got all those little bags at Target? NO our Target has not had them or did and sold out already. We don’t go to Target every time we go to town, especially lately, been running too much taking care of things before my surgery, what a hassle. On Thursday afternoon late the hospital calls to tell me there is a $250 a day co-pay that has to be paid upon entrance to hospital, what? News to me. So now have to fill out papers about our finances. They want all kinds of receipts have no idea where they are since we don’t have to do yearly tax reporting anymore. Hope will give us time to get all this info collected, sheesh, NOt something I wanted to have to do.
Humana was one of ins. companies bought out few months ago. They told AARP would be no increases right away, liars, my premiums went up over $20 and lots of benefits cut. Luckily don’t have to have expensive meds yet but am afraid to see what new year will hold. THink might should have changed providers. I had United Health for one year but they left CO about 5 yrs. ago, too expensive for them here, no kidding. If we’d known how expensive would have gone back to MT. We have two kids/families but they’re still earning money. Sorry for rant Sharon. Take care will reply when my shoulder says ok.
Occupational therapist came today to let me know what Human won’t pay for anymore. That figures huh? Price goes up and provisions are axed.
Have great week, I will be reading posts, just not able to reply.
