Happy Halloween and a Wrap-up

Happy Halloween!

Mantel half

I just returned from trick or treating with my grandson.  We went to church for trunk and treat and then went to a few neighbor houses.  He got more candy than should be legal for an eight year old to possess.

The 31 day writing challenge is over and I can’t say I’m sorry.  I had to think long and hard about participating this year.  In retrospect I think there was too much other stuff going on in my life and I wasn’t able to give anything my full attention.   I didn’t share near as many projects as planned but I have supplies to keep me busy for a while.

If you followed along through the whole 31 day challenge, I truly do appreciate it.

PB Inspired Spoon Shadow Box

Right before I sat down to write this post I opened an email from Beckie Farrant.  She is featuring my Pottery Barn Inspired Spoon Shadow Box  Monday, November 3rd on Knock Off Décor.  So be sure to check it out and send Beckie some love.

TTT Week 13 Vintage Christmas Goodies

Starting today I’m shorting my post title to TTT rather than Thursday Thrifty Treasure.  My post titles are just getting a bit too long.

Vintage Christmas Goodies

Christmas shopping for my booth is fun and frustrating at the same time.  I’ve really been looking for some vintage Shiny Brite ornaments but just can’t lay my hands on any.

Vintage Christmas Group

Here’s some of what I’ve found so far.

Brite Star Tinsel

I’m ashamed to say what I paid for the Brite Star icicles.  I did a happy dance when I saw it and danced even more when a 29 cent sticker attached.  Is 29 cents too much?  Unfortunately, the elf is a new model from Hobby Lobby.

Art Deco Green Candle Holders

It is going to be hard to part with these art deco candle holders.  I’ve looked on eBay and Etsy and can’t find any like them so I can’t decide on a price for the pair.  Any suggestions?

Coca Cola Playing Cards

These Coca Cola playing cards in a tin are about 20 years old and they are still in their original cardboard sleeve.  I have a similar set from about the same time period.

Noel Elf

I love decorations that spell out Christmas sentiments so I couldn’t pass up these NOEL letters.  Scrabble letter sets of seasonal sentiments keep selling out in my booth.

Gold Open Scroll Ornaments

These gold open scroll ornaments came in a set of 8.  Several still had a tag dated 1998.  Is 16 years old considered vintage?

Angel & Dove Christmas Ornaments

I loved these decoupage angel and dove ornaments.  Oh so Shabby!

House ornament with doors

I’m not sure I can part with this ornament.

Good Will Toward Men

The windows slide open to show a fireplace, Christmas tree, and presents and on the bottom “On earth peace, good will toward men”.

Macy's Mugs

These four Christmas mugs each with Santa in a different pose are from “The Cellar” at Macy’s and dated 1994.

Macy's Mug Close up

This set is in perfect condition which is amazing for mugs sold in 1994

Santa Mug 1

I saw an adorable Santa mug at Goodwill and when I picked it up to see the price on the bottom I saw “To Kathy from Allen and John, Christmas 1954”.  Ok, no way was I leaving it behind.

Collection of Santa Mugs

So another BWH collection was born.  I’ve collected seven Santa mugs to date and no these will not be going to the booth.  Can you tell which one is from “Allen and John”?  (It’s the one on the far right that shows red paint inside the top of the cup.)

Santa Mugs and Elf

The three small ones are my favorites.

Two Santa Mugs

Most of their red paint has chipped off but I love their expressions.

Santa and Elf

I can see now this elf is going to get into some trouble!

Please be sure to come back tomorrow when I am wrapping up my 31 Days of Quick and Easy Holiday Décor and More.  Whew!!!  If you don’t already subscribe to my blog be sure to sign up by e-mail on the right, so you will never miss a post.  Thank you for visiting.

PB Inspired Jingle Bell Napkin Rings

When I saw the Jingle Bell napkin rings in the Pottery Barn catalogue I knew they would be charming with my Spode Christmas Tree China.

Jingle Bell Napkin Rings title

Of course making the napkin rings is only part of the story.

PB Jingle Bell Nap RingsPottery Barn

Here are the original Pottery Barn Jingle Bell Napkin Rings.

PB Jingle Bell NR Supplies

The supplies you need to make the napkin rings are a narrow black belt, silver bells, measuring tape, scissors, and glue.  Fortunately, I found a brand new black leather belt at the thrift store with the tags still attached.

Belt Clamped

Measure and cut a six inch piece of the black belt.  Carefully glue the two ends cut piece of the belt together and place clamps over the seam.

PB Insp Santa Bell Napkin Ring

Once the glue sets you have a nice little leather napkin ring, now you can add the bell.  I used my hot glue gun to attach the bell.

Place Setting

The place setting is for a casual family dinner of soup or stew made in the crock pot while your family is out Christmas shopping.  Wouldn’t it be nice to come home to a nice hot bowl of soup or stew after a long day of shopping?

Mini tablescape

I used a reproduction green mason jar to create a relaxed atmosphere for a casual family dinner.

Spode Christmas Tree

For this place setting I used a Spode Christmas Tree platter as a charger

Mini Tablescape 3

and topped it with a pasta bowl then instead of a place mat I used a wooden tray.

Spode Christmas Tree Flatware

The flatware is also Spode Christmas Tree.  Yeah, I am a little obsessed.

Noel

A simple Scrabble place card holder becomes special by adding a miniature bottle brush tree.

3 Bottle Brush trees

Speaking of bottle brush trees I fell in love with these three decorated ones at Hobby Lobby and at 50% off I couldn’t resist.

Mini tablescape 2

These Pottery Barn Inspired Jingle Bell napkin rings are quick and easy to make and just couldn’t be cuter.

Vintage Brass and Glass Display Box

When I found this vintage brass and glass display box at the thrift store it had an old moldy vignette inside.  It was gross but I knew once the display box was clean it would be a different story.

Family Sunday Funday

Well no décor or vintage post today.  Today I spent with children and grandchildren and I am feeling sentimental.  So I wanted to share a few photos from the last few years.

Boukie

Boukie the sweetest dog and she is as smart as a whip.   She always has this big old smile on her face and her tail wags are lethal.  My oldest daughter rescued her from certain death when she was just a pup nine years ago.  She  was a bait dog to teach other dogs how to fight.  I guess she hadn’t shown a killer instinct.  Reprehensible.   I’m so glad she found a forever home with us.

Favorite Christmas Posts

It is only two months until Christmas.  Can you believe how this year flew by?  Since I have a booth at the Treasure Hunt Christmas is on my brain.  I did a bit of shopping for the booth today and found some really cool Christmas goodies.  So tonight I thought I would share my favorite Christmas posts.

Quick and Easy Demijohn Vignette

This is a demijohn vignette but you could make it with bottles or vases.  You can use whatever you have on hand to put together an interesting look.  Experiment until you like what you see is my motto.

Vignette title

Start with a base of some kind.  I’m using a crate but you could use a basket or tray.

Books and key

A couple of books and an oversized key start the tour around the vignette.

Dried Hydrangea

A few dried hydrangeas added a bit of autumn color to the neutral palette.

white pumpkin

A white pumpkin gives a nod to the season too.

Seltzer Bottle

I liked the contrast of the aqua seltzer bottle next to the flat wicker demijohn.

Demijohns

A cutting board and a wicker covered demijohn finishes the tour around the vignette.

Savannah House

The watercolor above the vignette is a house in Savannah Georgia.  My mother bought the watercolor years ago on a visit to that beautiful Southern city.  She knew how much I loved Savannah and she left it to me when she passed away.  The original frame was broken when we moved into our current home and it languished around in storage for years.  When it turned up a while back I remembered how much I loved it and had it reframed.

Thursday Thrifty Treasure Week 12 – Silver Patina

Old silver with a lovely patina is one thing I can never pass up in the thrift store.  As such, I have amassed quite a collection without really meaning to.  When I started picking up silver pieces I didn’t always make sure they were hallmarked.  As my collection grew I knew I needed a determining factor for adding to the collection so I decided if the piece wasn’t hallmarked it wouldn’t be coming home with me.   I’ve been pretty good at following that rule.   Here are some of the ways I use pieces of my silver collection.

Blue Willow Tea 2

This large tray had feet in an earlier life.  When I purchased it only had one foot left so I got this very large silver tray for next to nothing.  Fortunately, I was able to remove the remaining foot, now I’m just not sure what to do with one silver tray foot.  Any suggestions?

Dundee Marmalade pot

Oh, did I mention that I almost always pick up silver plate flatware when it is a reasonable price.

Small Silver Tray

This little footed silver tray of perfume sits on my bathroom counter but it doesn’t photograph very well in there.

Creamer & Sugar

I use a silver creamer and sugar bowl to store my q-tips and cotton balls on that same bathroom counter.

Favorite ornaments

Last Christmas I used a silver Revere bowl on a silver tray to display a collection of ornaments in my dining room.

Shells and Pearls

This two tiered silver server held a collection of sea shells, pearls, and colored beads in my bedroom a while back.

Val Collage 2The silver champagne bucket appeared on my Valentine mantel two years in a row 2013 and 2014.

Pink Roses

Most recently I used a silver tray to hold a bowl of pink roses here

Tea Pots

but it normally looks like this.

A simple silver tray from the thrift store can add quick and easy décor anytime.

Fresh Flowers for Quick and Easy Decor

What adds life to a room quicker than a bouquet of fresh flowers?  Fresh flowers are my go to for a quick and easy way to perk up any room in my house.  The bonus is that fresh flowers also lift my mood and make me feel better.  Do they effect you that way too?

Fresh Flowers title

These pink roses caught my eye today so I brought them home with me.  They brightened up my bedroom instantly.

Fall Carnations

My post Fall in the Foyer wouldn’t have been the same without these beautiful tangerine carnations.

Queen Anne's Lace French Water Pitcher

Even some free flowers make a beautiful bouquet in my French Enamel Water Pitcher.  My grandson and I picked this Queen Anne’s Lace by the side of a quiet country road near my house.

Ivory Roses

These white roses made my Valentine’s Day Mantel special.

Valentine Tulips

Pink tulips brought this Valentine’s Day Vignette together.

Vintage Mason Jars

I like the way the blue of the mason jars plays off the green wall and pink carnations in Happy Pink Carnation Friday.

Pink Roses

The fun thing about these roses in my bedroom is that in a few days I can tie them together and hang them upside down to dry.  Which allows me to keep using them in my décor for a long time.

These dried white roses are from my Valentine’s day mantel that you saw above.

Quick and Easy Halloween Mantel

Yes, I’m backing up to Halloween after a Christmas post but you haven’t seen my Quick and Easy Halloween Mantel.

Mantel half
It is pretty simple this year.

trophy with pumpkin

You saw a photo of the trophy I purchased on Etsy in an earlier post.  I’ve been looking for trophies for a while and this is the first one I found at a good price.

Halloween BirdsThese birds took the place of the ghost banner that I made here.  My granddaughter didn’t like the ghosts but you really can’t see the birds against the stacked stone fireplace.

trophy & urn

The black urns were a Hobby Lobby purchase when they were 50% off.

Skulls and urn

You’ve seen this skull vase filler before.

Skulls in vase

It’s my Skull Vase Filler Pottery Barn Style.

Halloween Mantel

I used my B O O letters tied together with raffia from last year but hung them in a jaunty way. Hanging them this way was a bit of an accident but I liked it and left it this way.  This whole mantel came together in about 10 minutes.
