Simple Sunday – Fourth of July on the Balcony

Welcome to Simple Sunday from my daughter’s place in Florida.

Today I’m adding a little Fourth of July decor to her balcony.

A visit to Bullseye’s Playground at Target provided all I needed to add a patriotic feel to her balcony.  It all started with this banner (I bought myself one too).  The driftwood heart is new too but it isn’t part of the patriotic decor.

Taking a cue from the banner I picked out a small red and white gingham pillow for one of the chairs.  I would have gotten two pillows but they only had one.  We are still on the lookout for another one.

This cute little ceramic ice cream cone makes a perfect holder

 for nine mini American flags.

It all came together nicely and for only ten dollars my daughter has some adorable Fourth of July balcony decor.

Thank you for joining me today and I don’t want to forget all the Dads so a huge Happy Father’s Day.

How to Plan a Last Minute Memorial Day Tablescape

My middle name is procrastination because I am always waiting until the last minute to get my holiday plans in order.  My plans are still uncertain but I wanted to set a test Memorial Day tablescape so I decided to use the small bistro table in the sun room and do one place setting.  That way I could get a feel for what looked good together.

Title Memorial Day Tablescape

Here is how I put the tablescape together using a traditional Memorial Day red, white, and blue theme using only items I had on hand.

Charger and plate

I have some pretty blue and white place mats but they won’t work on a round table so I pulled out a round blue and white buffalo check tablecloth .  Once the tablecloth was in place I added a red charger and  translucent white swirl plate edged in gold.

Salad Plate and bowl

Then I added white regency salad plates topped with Blue Willow berry bowl.

Flatware and coaster

Next came the flatware and a coaster.

Place Setting

Then came a pretty blue goblet and  blue and white napkin with red enamel napkin ring.

Place Setting with US Flag

What Memorial Day tablescape would be complete without an American Flag?

Happy Memorial Day 2015

My friend Tim shared his thoughts about Memorial Day and I couldn’t agree more.

“Remember what this weekend is really about. It’s not about getting a good deal on a TV or a car. It’s about the countless people that laid down their lives for our country. We get to grill out and spend time at the beach or the lake because a lot of people didn’t come home. It’s not about us, it’s about them!”

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day 2015.
