How to Fake a Vintage Wicker Demijohn

Welcome friends to my reveal of how I faked a vintage wicker demijohn.

Since I am working on a family room refresh redoing the mantel and hearth decor is a must.  I have three vintage wicker demijohns and I wanted to use them on the hearth but I couldn’t come up with an arrangement that worked.

Then I thought maybe I could find one on Etsy that wasn’t too expensive.  After looking at the options for a while I became discouraged.   I decided that a glass of tea might help my feelings and help me think of a solution to my dilemma.

Earlier in the day, I uncovered a pretty aqua blue demijohn style bottle that I picked up at Target a couple of years ago that I had forgotten about.  It was just sitting in the armoire in the family room.   I thought it might look good on the hearth with the wicker demijohns bottle on the hearth with others but it looks a little out-of-place.  Disappointed I walked back into the kitchen for some more tea.

As I stood in the kitchen I saw a box that was bound for Goodwill sitting on the back steps. In it was a small bucket shaped wicker basket.  Would the bottle from Target fit into the soon to be donated wicker basket?

Only one way to find out, try it.  It slid right into the wicker basket and fit perfectly.   I added some wooden beads and called it a day.

I placed it with the other demijohns on the hearth.  It’s not perfect but it works in the grouping just fine.  The best thing is that the price is just right – $0.

I loved your fake demijohn; I know they can be very expensive! I had a basket (larger I think) very similar to yours that I used as a waste basket for years. Wonder what happened to it! Shopping your own home is a great way to go!

Oh my gosh I love this!!! I like it even better than a traditional demijohn! I walked past a reasonably priced large carboy at a flea market this weekend, now I’m kicking myself lol. xo Kathleen|Our Hopeful Home
