Oh The Shamrock

,I’ve struggled with whether or not to decorate for St. Patrick’s Day but I picked up a wooden shamrock at Target in the Dollar Spot.  By the way it is now named Bullseye’s Playground.  Target actually rebranded it back in November but I failed to pick up on it until recently.  So now that I have a shamrock it looks like I will decorate a little bit for St. Patrick’s Day.

Sharmrock 2

I like the way it turned out.

Black Shamrock

All though I didn’t make a photo before I began, but it is a faux plank wooden shamrock cutout.  The first thing I did was remove the jute rope hanger.  I want the shamrock to have the rustic look of old wood, so I brushed on some black paint to age the wood.

Black and green

After the black paint dried I brushed on green paint making sure not to cover all the black.  I painted the sides of the shamrock green.  After the paint dried I lightly sanded the top of the shamrock.

Scrabble Letters 1

What’s a shamrock without an Irish adage so I picked scrabble letters to spell out an Irish saying.

Shamrock luck

I hot glued the letters to the shamrock in a random pattern.  Then, I fed the jute rope back through the holes near the top and tied off the ends of the rope on the front of the shamrock forming a hanger.

Shamrock 1

It is hanging on the basement door in the Kitchen.  As it turns out I just can’t let a holiday pass without celebrating the day with a little decor.

  1. I am not Irish but it’s fun to decorate for different Holidays and seasons. You made this much more vintage looking and created something darling. I think New Year’s, Valentines, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter decorating help us get through the winter. Here in Colorado it is rarely springtime weather at Easter so having said that – we need these little “events” just to get through!

I’m glad I didn’t see that or I might have bought it. You’d think being Irish I would go all out but I think between Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, etc. there’s not any room for anything else! Love what you did with it. xo Kathleen
